Yesterday, St Patrick's Day,

Several bloggers suggested making Irish Shepard's Pie

It reminded me of a recipe my mom used to make

called, Hamburger Pie.

I haven't made it for years, so I decided to revive the old recipe

and jazz it up little (as my dad would say).

Basically,
it is browned hamburger, corn, carrots, onion, garlic, and a can of tomato soup
topped with mashed potatoes and baked a half hour at 375

. . . . and if it is St Patty's Day, the potatoes need to be green

looked kinda gross

tasted good, though

It doesn't look "kinda gross" .. it looks REALLY gross. =o)

I bet it did taste good though. Wes likes Shepherd Pie .. I'll have to try it .. with White potatoes on top. =o)

Mmmm that sounds so good, I miss that meal. Yes it does look less than desirable but I know how it tastes!

On the very first St. Patty's day we spent together, which was 2 weeks after our wedding. You made St. Patty's Cream-o-wheat, totally green. I wasn't a very good sport then but 33 years later I was so excited to see green potatoes for dinner last night. However I still expect the first bit to be minty and am always happy...
that it's not.
I love your green tradition!

Maybe next time you could fulfil the green requirement with green vegetables, green sald, kiwi, and brownies with green mint frosting! I wonder what green french bread would look and taste like!

Where's the fun in that, Lynne? it is much more rewarding to make something that looks less than appetizing. the looks on their faces are priceless.
