Naomi Stayner Gibbs - age 13
Today is my mother's birthday
she is 83
I am her first child
We are best friends
If I had to select a single word to sum up mom
it would be elegant.
She is a true lady in every sense of the word . . .
right down to the lace and linen handkerchief she always carries.
Circa 1988
She has a deep and unwavering testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Dad didn't join the Church until he was 72,
so mom single-handedly took us, their 4 daughters, every Sunday.
She sat in church, without him, for 50 years
. . . . and now, they are sealed in the Temple.
I honor my mother for her dedication and perseverance;
it led to the sweet love story they are living now.
******
Mom is wonderful grandmother
She attended every piano and dance recital, track meets, and countless special events for my children.
They know, beyond a shadow of doubt, that their Grandma Nana loves them.
She taught dancing at Arthur Murray Studio
in the '50's
she and dad love ballroom dance
Mom has enriched our life with her spunk . . .
always greeting us at her door performing the Mexican Hat Dance
and without fail, having a little gift for my children.
******
Steve and I loved to travel with mom and dad.
Some of my favorite times were laughing on those trips.
Mom and I would pack our cutest clothes
and try to look our fashionable best every day of the vacation.
I could really go on and on
because my mother means everything to me.
I love you dearly,
Happy Birthday Mom!

I love the all the old photos! I think elegant is the perfect word to sum her up!
I love this post! I love your mother, and had the opportunity to be loved by her before you came along! She lived with us for a time when I was a little girl. Your mother and my mother have always shared a special closeness. My mom is exactely 10 years older than yours. She turned 93 a couple of weeks ago, also in June.
Excitement filled the air when Aunt Toni (and the cousins) were coming for a visit! Just to be in her presence is uplifting and joyful. I have wanted to be like her.
Aunt Toni loves in a tender, gracious, and elegant way. Unlike any other that I know. She is a beautiful example of womanhood.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Aunt Naomi!!! Love Little Lynnie
Oh Grandma Nana... I will always remember arriving at their house and hearing her sing before she even opened the door to let us in. And then the hat dance.
Happy Birthday, Grandma!!
Happy Birthday Grandma Nana! I sure hope she knows how much we love her. I love her Mexican hat song with her skirt she would swing around in while she sang. And she still loves to give me presents, that's never going to get old. I love you grandma.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM, I LOVE YOU!
Wow 83! So I've known you for 40 of those years. And in all that time you have always been a woman of beauty, grace, kindness, tenderness, sweetness and fun. You have raised one AMAZING daughter. Well, probably 4 but you know what I mean. Diane and I both pray and hope that your health will improve enough for you and Dad to come visit us once again. Also we would so love to take one of our "trips together".
I hope you have a great birthday and remember to go easy on the See's candy!
