this is Ruth
She was my mother's childhood doll.
Mom named her Ruth, after her older sister.
When I turned eight, Ruth became mine.
Ruth sits on my nightstand.
and She is getting old and cracked.
I know she should be in a display case,
but I like having her near me;
it feels like I am close to my mother.

I alway see Ruth on your night stand and I just thought it was yur old doll. Ruth has a neat story and I agree the night stand is her perfect home.
My mom (Gloria) was the first child to be born in the family of Henry and Sarah Stayner. Next came Ruth. My mom said that Ruth was beautiful, even as a child, with long brown-black curls. Later in life, she became the Rodeo Queen. She could ride a horse too! Your doll is very special.
I think this is one of your most prized possessions. Knowing what life was like for your mother as she was growing up and the very few items she had. Ruth is a real treasure. I too enjoy seeing her on the night stand.
