My favorite subject at Herbert Hoover High School was:
Steve Freeman
Steve Freeman
1970 Our first prom - - - I saved the rose in my Steve Freeman Scrapbook
He took me out in THIS
It is safe to say I wasn't dating him for his car.
A typical date involved taking the old blue truck into the foothills near Fresno to explore untraveled back roads. One day, we found an old bridge with a cable hanging down over a stream. After a picnic lunch under the bridge, we took turns swinging on the cable; it was a great time!

Steve was a Senior and I was a Junior.
I was quite enamored;
and saved everything that had anything to do with him
Matchbooks from our favorite restaurants
All gone, except La Fonda - same owners, new name: Casa Quintero
His after shave box - - - - - - - - The neckband from his Tshirt
Our first concert - - - - - - - - His eyelashes (I know. . . . its weird)
One of the first times Steve came over,
my mother said, "he looks like a tiger."
I've called him Tige, ever since....
When I was learning to crawl, dad called me doodle bug.
Now, shortened to Doodie, it is what dad and Steve still call me.
Thus.......we are Tige & Doo.

My Junior year, I entered an art contest
With a pencil portrait of my sister, Susan.
I won a scholarship to San Francisco Academy of Art College.
1970 - Portrait of Susan
At 17, I wasn't ready to leave home for San Francisco, so I declined the offer.
Being a good student gave me the option to graduate early,
And still live at home my first year of college.
Steve and I attended Fresno City College together the year before his mission.
Just before his mission, Steve baptized my sister, Susan
I asked Steve what he would like me to wear to see him off at the airport
He said, "The black dress".
I also wore the ring he made and watch he bought me
He gave me a rose.
The smile belies the heart of a sad girl.

Ok. So many things to say. I didn't know you had Dad's eyelashes! I'll just say 'weird' wasn't EXACTLY the word that came to mind... maybe you can guess what it really was... :) And I always thought it was hilarious that you saved the color from his T-shirt. It's amazing how Dad doesn't have a huge ego now because of your little fan base. He's very much a humble amazing person, very much deserving of your fanaticism.
And lastly, I want to wear a mini dress so badly. I just think they are the cutest things in the world. And they are completely in style right now... with sweater tights and super high heels! Your picture makes me THIS CLOSE to buying one.
Beautiful photos! I wish my parents had photos of themselves growing up.. they have maybe 5 or 6.
Seeing all these pictures of you growing up has made me realize that your kids actually DO look like you. I definitely see some of Chloe's features in the first picture. I've always been one for saving things, but the eyelashes are a little much even for me :-).
well that was an educational lunch break. :)
I had forgotten Steve baptized Susan. You kids look sooo cute. That old blue truck was something else. I drove it ONCE, took it shopping. went to one store and drove it home, it was awful! I decided I could wait until tomorrow and drive my car. Lois
Love looking at everything!!! Those were the days!
I learned to drive stick shift on that old blue truck...then after awhile it stated breaking down so I decided a bike was more reliable!
Chrissy, if he HAD developed a big ego, I wouldn't have liked him ...see how that works? You can come pretty close to the mini look with leggings and a tunic :)
Marci, I am so glad someone sees a resemblance:)
Zach, you made me laugh out loud.
Lois, so did you. Imagining you in that truck, with the push button starter and column shift was a great visual.
LaRee, if you learned to drive in THAT, you can drive ANYTHING!
OK 1. so dad really does look like some of your tiger pictures in your scrap book, 2. I love how you guys are into each other but still awkward in your prom picture, 3. I love the rope swing shots and based on the stages of growth everyone is experiencing in your sister shot makes you look like their cute favorite aunt. 4. Also I didn't know you won a scholarship for that sketch of Susie, I would have taken that no question to live in the city, but you did have ulterior Fresno motives :)
I was thinking the exact same things as Marci (like daughter, like mother)... Your kids REALLY do look like you. I know for me that's the ultimate compliment and knowing you, I'll bet you feel the same way. Oops, was that a button I heard?
I was asking dad about the blue pick-up...Do you remember Glen? Dad sold it to him for $10.00...when it broke down dad said, sorry NO REDUND!
I LOVED this post! It brings back so many memories. Do you remember who took those photos of you and Steve behind the church (sunset photos)? I remember that outfit from those photos...I always thought that was the coolest mini-skirt/vest combination. I also didn't realize you had done that drawing of Susie when you were only 17--amazing talent you had/have. In the "rope swing" photo I thought that was a photo of Chrissy for a moment(!).
Love, Jenn
Jenn, good trivia memory on the sunset photos, they WERE taken behind the church (can you believe I wore such a short skirt to church?) That evening we were attending the wedding of Steve's cousin, John Randall. Steve took these 2 photos, I don't remember who took the shot of us together (from an earlier post) but it is my all time favorite of us and sits on our piano.
