Brittany and Ili bought a cute fixer-upper
We had fun helping them remodel the kitchen.
We did electrical and sheetrock repair
Painted
Installed new flooring
. . . . and turned THIS
Into THIS
. . . . and THIS
Into THIS
I love the retro vibe, very Anthropologie

My Grandma Gibbs was from Oklahoma
and she made the best fried pies in the world.
I am not exaggerating ...not even a little bit.
These little half moon shaped apricot filled flaky crust delights
Were soooo good that someone actually stood up at her funeral
and said, “I’m sure going to miss her fried pies”.
On many a visit I asked Grandma to teach me how to make them,
I could never get the crust just right. Hers was flaky perfection.
So, after repeated mediocre attempts,
I accepted the fact that Grandma’s fried pies were just
one more special thing that passed away with her.
At least that is what I thought until today.

Driving Interstate 35 from Oklahoma to Texas,
THIS sign marks exit 51
The car just pulled in on its own,
we couldn't control it.
The moment I walked into the shop,
the aroma placed me in Grandma’s kitchen.
My hopes began to rise.
In order to make the most direct comparison, I tried the apricot.
Took one bite. . . and oh . . . my . . . goodness . . . .
I can’t think of a superlative that is super enough
It was identical to Grandma's,
The crust, the filling, EVERYTHING.
I ate one and bought 2 more.
It turns out, fried pies were not just my Grandma’s thing,
they are an Oklahoma thing.
We will definitely be making future stops at exit 51.
Yummy Treat. Warm Grandma memories.

It's so fun walking into our house now. I love the aroma of the fresh paint and new stuff, I am so amazed and happy each time I go near the kitchen! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! It really is extreme make over!
oh and I'm so excited for you to find a fried pie shop!
Well, I've said it once and I'll say it again... I cannot BELIEVE the transformation on their kitchen. I gasped when I saw it! It look incredible! You guys worked like crazy people and it looks magnificent. I cannot believe you laid wood floors, redid the ceiling, electrical work, and painted with all the cutting in and what not in 3.5 days. I really really do wish I could have helped and joined the fun. Makes me miss the good ol' days of fixing up Morley, fixing up Grandma Mable's house, etc. As Zacho would say, Good Times!
Oh, and I don't know if a fried pie would be MY thing necessarily... But I do remember the distinct smell of Grandma's and I'm sure that discovery made you sooo happy. How far is it from the house? :-)
Wow.. huge difference! If she gets a vintage dangly light fixture, the kitchen will be totallly anthropologie. ;)
Chrissy, the pie shoppe is in Oklahoma, about an hour south of Brili. I think you would like them and I KNOW FOR SURE your Zacho would ...country cookin' at its finest.
WOW! What a transformation! You guys should do a reality show...You are so talented. I love the colors. I've been very into "green" lately...on everything, so I especially love the color you used for the walls. Fried pies! I'm jealous! Such good memories of Grandma Gibbs...I miss her. -Jenn
Whenever you and Cheryl change your commenting options I will be relieved...I just typed a long comment and then shut the window before it posted because I always think I'm done...aahhh.
Anyway, basically it said, AMAZING, we are all lucky to have you guys and I like Cheryl's idea for the light :-)!
Marci, I am so sorry about that, I know how frustrating that is; it has happened to me too. I really appreciate your comments and now I am curious what the long one said:) I went into my comment page and I think I have the problem solved. I hope so. anyway...don't let it stop you from commenting :)
Amazing before and after pics!...the fried pie looks like a must try!
