Last night

we enjoyed one of our favorite Christmas traditions

Photobucket

As a family, which is down to 3 now, we got dressed up to go out on the town.

When we lived in Fremont, CA, we attended the Messiah at the Oakland Temple every year,
then we would go to San Francisco for dinner and shopping.

Now, we celebrate San Antonio style . . . .by going down to the Riverwalk.
We always love it down there, but it is especially beautiful at Christmas time.
We had dinner, window shopped, and strolled down candle lit paths
looking up at long strands of lights hanging from the huge trees.

Last night was cold and misty, making it feel more Christmasy. It was fun bundling up.

I wore my cow fur coat (yes, real cow) . . ..very San Antonio, don't ya think?

especially when paired with cowboy boots :)

I LOVE your cow coat! I remember when you got that, I think about 25 years ago, and it still looks so great. Do you remember where you got it? It fit's so perfectly with the "Texas lifestyle" you have now...(-:
John loved his visit with all of you, by the way. Thank you for being such a dear sister and taking in my husband and feeding him and making him feel so at home. He had a wonderful time! I told him that next time he goes to S.A. I AM going...!

Miss Jenn: I can't wait for you to come! It would be so fun to go out with our hubbies. I wish I could visit you soon, but the next few months are crazy with taxes and Brit's baby coming :)

Here is what I remember from the coat's history: it came from aunt Gloria. Apparantly uncle Ted had a rich relative (in the liquor business, I think?) who owned several fur coats. It has her initials embroidered on the lining (MPB). I think her first name was Mildred. Lynne could probably set me straight on the details. I love it and wore it to San Francisco several times.

Here's a little more info to add to the above ... Your Uncle Teds parent's, Paul and Vinnie Johnson, owned a beverage company in Willows and Sacramento area in California, called Superior Beverage Company. They sold soda pop, beer, and liguor. They worked many long hours, and made the business very successful. This is where they made most of their money. It sustained them the rest of their life. When they sold the beverage business, they bought a big ranch in Orland, Calif., raising cattle, sheep, pigs, and chickens. They also had a couple of horses, both of which, we'd ride in the 4th of July parade, opening the Glenn County Fair. The ranch house was big and gorgeous, white with a white picked fence. To get to the house, one would drive down a long driveway of citris trees. When nearing the house, one could see the many trees and flowers surrounding the house. My favorite part of the property was the big swimming pool in the back yard. Anyway... the coat belonged to my dad's sister, Mildred Pauline Bowman, thus the initials MPB. You do look cute in that coat! How fun! I like your many pretty pictures ... The pictures of your 'holiday home' and of your 'holiday adventures'. Merry Christmas!

What a fun way to Texas-fy the Christmas tradition!
